“Keep it simple” is not a slogan for me — it is how I judge every system I build.

Syed Kamran Ali is an entrepreneur and technology leader who believes in people, processes and tools — equally. He is the founder and CEO of IBEES Consulting, an Official Odoo Partner in the United Kingdom, and the founder of K & A World, The Design and Packaging Company and SEMONTIC.AI. Across the Odoo community he is known as That Odoo Guy.

I did not start with Odoo as a consultant. I started with Odoo as a business owner. Before leading ERP transformations for other organisations, I implemented and relied on Odoo inside my own companies — first in software consulting, then in physical manufacturing. I have seen what works, what breaks under pressure, and what actually matters when a system meets a real decision on a busy day.

That ownership mindset shapes every engagement. I do not treat ERP as software installation. I treat it as the operating infrastructure of a business — and every workflow, automation and report has to earn its place by serving a real operational decision.

How I Think

People, processes and tools — in that order

Three convictions I apply whether I am implementing an ERP, running a packaging factory or building an AI platform.

People first

A system is only as good as the people who own it. I start by understanding who does the work, who makes the decisions and what they need to see — before I open a configuration screen.

Processes that reflect reality

Software should mirror how the business actually runs, not how a template says it should. I map the real workflow, remove the friction, and only then decide what to automate.

Tools that stay maintainable

Standard Odoo first. Customisation only when it has a clear business purpose, is documented and survives the next upgrade. Complexity is a cost, not a feature.

Background

From core networks to enterprise systems

My technical instinct formed early. In the eighth grade I built a small electronics lab at home and spent my evenings etching circuit boards. That curiosity led to a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications, and then to a decade running mission-critical core networks — for PTCL in Pakistan, for Huawei, and for Ooredoo in Oman, where I received the SVMS Excellent Staff award for outstanding performance in 2015.

The turning point came in 2006 at PTCL, when the company deployed SAP ERP across its national operations. Watching fragmented processes become one connected, real-time system convinced me that if I ever ran a business, it would run on an ERP from day one. When I discovered TinyERP — the project that became Odoo — I knew which one.

In 2010 I founded IBEES Consulting to build on Odoo. In 2016 I took that discipline into sustainable packaging manufacturing, and in 2018 established K & A World in the United States to hold those brands. In 2025 I founded SEMONTIC.AI to apply the same structured-knowledge thinking to how search engines and AI systems understand businesses.
